"Catholic Church’s Stance on Women Alienates people, Archbishop Says", Diarmuid Martin by Patsy McGarry, Irish Times, I Agree, Ordain Women in Ireland, Colm Holmes writes that Archbishop said we will see " new forms of priestly presence" within faith communities in changing future of Ireland"

My Response: I agree with Archbishop Diarmuid Martin that the church's stance on women alienates the people of Ireland. I look forward to ordaining women priests in Ireland. The first women, who take this courageous step, will be a sign of hope that a new day is dawning in which women lead the way toward a more inclusive church in which all can feel at home.  Colm Holmes' comment on Archbishop Martin's statement that there will be "new forms of priestly presence" sounds like what is happening in the United States , Canada, Latin America in our women priests' led inclusive communities. Very interesting, that he is predicting this for the future of Ireland!

The low standing of women in the Catholic Church is the most significant reason for the feeling of alienation towards it in Ireland today, Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin has said.
“Next would be the ongoing effect of the scandals of child sexual abuse,” he said in an address on Thursday.
“I believe, in particular, that people have underestimated the effect of the scandals on young people.”
He added that young people’s “disgust at what happened is deep-rooted”.
Dr Martin said one of the most disappointing documents that he had read since becoming archbishop concerned a recent survey of young people in Dublin, conducted in preparation for the Synod of Bishops on Young People in Rome next year.

“Young people felt unwelcome in parishes,” he said of the survey’s results.
This reflected “on our system of faith education, which is overly school-centred” and “does not bring young people into better communication with the parish”.
Looking at the current Government, he said he was struck by “the fact that there are more members of the current Cabinet under 45 than there are of priests of that age in the [Dublin] diocese. The same applies to leadership cadres in many other sectors of society”.
He said 57 per cent of priests in the Dublin archdiocese were aged over 60 and this was projected to rise to 75 per cent by 2030.
He said that leadership in “many aspects of our culture belongs to one generation and leadership and the mainstream membership of the church belongs to another”.
“How do you bridge that gap?” he asked.
Dr Martin said he was “happy to see a new generation of young politicians who are inspired by a politics of changing Irish society for the good rather than just fixing problems”.
However, the archbishop said some people might interpret what he was saying as that he was “happy to see politicians who support same-sex unions or wider access to abortion”.

Dear WAC Ireland Members & Friends,

Advent greetings!

I have just been reading Archbishop Diarmuid Martin's talk in St. Mary's Haddington Road (16 November 2017) about the Church in Ireland in 10 years time. He states: "Probably the most significant negative factor that influences attitudes to the Church in today's Ireland is the place of women in the Church." And he goes on to say we will see "new forms of priestly presence within faith communities in the changing future of Ireland." Now that's as close as our Archbishop has come to an endorsement for opening all ministries to women!

My Comment: I agree with the bishops and hope their voice is heard along with the majority of people in our country! This plan is a moral travesty, welfare for the richest at the expense of everyone else! Bridget Mary Meehan ARCWP

"Jesuit Martyrs of El Salvador," America

Jesuit Martyrs of El Salvador
On November 16, 1989, six Jesuits, their housekeeper and her daughter were brutally murdered, after standing up for justice in El Salvador. To remember them, America has curated a special content page where you can find a range of articles that provide background and in-depth coverage about the brave witness of these martyrs.

"Bishop McElroy decries extremism on religious freedom, calls for solidarity in American politics" Nov 16, 2017 by Thomas Reese, Religion News Service

https://www.ncronline.org/news/opinion/signs-times/bishop-mcelroy-decries-extremism-religious-freedom-calls-solidarity

"The Catholic tradition rejects both approaches, he said.
In response to minimalists who deliberately undermine the freedom of the church by reducing religious expression to worship, he says, “The Church must emphasize that a robust appreciation for the specifically religiously inspired works of faith communities in health care, social service and advocacy for the marginalized lie at the core of the Gospel imperative, and any realistic notion of religious liberty in the United States.”
On the other hand, the maximalists “seek to undermine the legitimate authority of the state by endorsing an ever expanding notion of individual rights of conscience in the public sphere without due regard for the governmental pursuit of the common good.”
“This, too,” he says, “is a distortion of the Catholic doctrine of religious liberty.” The church must reject both extremes.
McElroy finds support in Murray’s position that “The right to conscience in public expression is ultimately rooted in the dignity of the human person and the pursuit of the common good. And the public order, that part of the common good which falls to government, is a wholly legitimate pursuit of government even when that common good necessitates restrictions upon the public actions of believers acting in the light of their conscience.”
The church “must defend absolutely the rights of conscience to internal belief, point to the moral warrants for the robust freedom of religious communities, and outline the nuanced Catholic teaching on the rights of believers to act upon their beliefs in society,” says McElroy. “But the Church must be equally dedicated to defending the corresponding governmental right to — at times — restrict conscience-driven actions in pursuit of a genuine common good.”
This balanced position by the church is especially needed in the toxic atmosphere of American politics."

ARCWP. I AM DAUGHTER OF THE THEOLOGY OF LIBERATION. Olga Lucia Álvarez Benjumea *

https://evangelizadorasdelosapostoles.wordpress.com/2017/11/16/arcwp-soy-hija-de-la-teologia-de-la-liberacion-olga-lucia-alvarez-benjumea/

I have been invited to participate in the Preparatory Panel for the celebration of the 50-year Medellin Episcopal Conference, organized by SICSAL (International Christian Service of Solidarity with the peoples of Latin America) and other institutions that accompany us today.
I answer the suggested questions:
What is your experience or relationship with the spirit of the Medellin Document?
I was one of the 4 secretaries, who was able to witness and support the development of the Conference. She was a simple secretary, in a Commercial Secretariat they do not give you theology. My theology, I received it in my home in the care of the faith and of Christian values. Fundamentally my theology is based on the Catechism of Father Astte. I was formed at the time, of not asking questions, because "doctors have the Holy Mother Church". But my conscience taught me in silence the value of Justice, Peace and Reconciliation.
Through my hands passed and passed documents, proposals and suggestions, until the Document of Medellin remained in its final draft. What I saw and read there, made me dream and glimpse a Church with "the smell of sheep" as today, Francisco tells us.
For that reason, the official document, which we received for approval, we pushed, and we did not give him free rein against the document, which I had in my hands, sent by the opponents, headed by the one whose name I do not want to remember, never He approached our work site, he only sent an emissary, to Bishop Luis Eduardo Henriquez (qepd).
What does it mean to live this commemoration of the 50 years of Medellín?
Remember the experience lived 50 years ago in Medellin, makes me vibrate. The difficulties, persecution, repressions, judgments and condemnations, have made us raise the spirit, giving us energy and courage, to free ourselves and liberate the oppressed, rejected, marginalized, despised, proclaiming the Gospel worthily and honestly.
Recently in the Assembly of Pax Christi in Fulda-Germany, I met with a bishop Emerito (Bishop Meinoulf Demmel, Diocese of Essen) who was at that time, in Adveniat, shared with us, like the Colombian cardinal, whose name I could not remember, at the time of the 70s he had requested that the resources for the work of Theology of Liberation in Latin America be suppressed ...
What projections can you establish from this commemoration in 2018, taking into account the preferential option for the poor present in the Document?
The projects are already being developed, we must continue to support them, Liberation Theology has opened up a whole range of theologies, (Women's Theology, Earth Theology, Black Theology, Indigenous Theology, Urban Theology, and others) that are lived in the town, it is from there in each of them the theological contribution that the people of God are making, facing the preferential option for the poor, which I would say, is not so optional, here it is not, that take it or leave it, if you want, here is an obligation, a radical commitment, to live the Baptism, which impels us to live following Christ, in his Gospel.
What is your reading of the reference made by Pope Francis to the method of See, Judge and Act, during his visit to Medellin?
For a good listener, few words are enough. Francisco, continues to challenge us to live the Gospel. We feel that he supports what was proposed not only at the Second Vatican Council, but also the Documents of Medellín, reaffirmed at the Aparecida-Brazil Conference. It is to feel a fresh air that fills us with oxygen, frees us of toxins, energizing us, giving us energy, to break with fear and to live the Gospel within the demands of today, despite the difficulties that come our way.

The Encounter had as a frame of reference to remember the murder of the Jesuit Fathers, Ignacio Ellacuría, Segundo Montes, Ignacio Martin-Baró, Amando López, Juan Ramón Moreno, Joaquin López and Mrs. Elba and their daughter Celina Ramos, on the 16th of November 1989

"Experience Your Divinity, Tap into Your Spiritual Power by Bridget Mary Meehan ARCWP

Paul Smith, in his ground-breaking book, Integral Christianity, sums it up: "What do do when you have outgrown religion? Some become agnostics and atheists. Others keep going to templet, mosque, or church by checking their minds at the door and getting some nostalgia and comfort inside. An increasing number search out others religions or try a cafeteria-style, "I'm spiritual, not religious" assortment.  Many leave their religion but hang on to God. However, there is another option. Move to a higher stage of your own religion. This is what integral and beyond Christianity and church are all about for Christians- recognizing that wherever you are on the spiral of life, there is a way to follow Jesus at ever- higher levels... This is the escalator potential of all spiritual traditions. The traditional church believes in original sin. The post modern church believes in original goodness. The integral church believes in original divinity." p. 219, 217

Roman Catholic Women Priests  are "movin on up " by  following the example of Jesus who called women and men to be his disciples in a companionship of equals. We are following God's call  today to get out of the boat and walk on water as we lead our church to a new model of discipleship rooted in Jesus' example of partnership. We trust Holy Wisdom guiding our steps as we serve  inclusive Catholic communities where all are welcome to receive Eucharist.

Unlike the traditional church who claims that priests have special powers to manifest divinity that ordinary people in the pews do not possess, we are changing the model from a hierarchical model to a circular model with shared homilies, all pray the words of consecration and  share in decision-making. The entire community celebrates liturgy, not the presider alone.

I believe that each of us has all the spiritual power we need to do what Jesus did. He predicted we would do even greater things than he did because through the indwelling of Spirit, we are other "Christs"  divine daughters and  divine sons,  manifesting  the Holy One. in everything we do and say.

Like Jesus each of us is fully human and fully divine. Like Jesus, each of us is called to  love as God loves, to forgive as God forgives, to serve as God serves.

One of my favorite scripture prayers is: " I can do all things in God who strengthens me." Over the years, I  have witnessed powerful community prayer where many little miracles of healing  bodies, minds and hearts happened.  (See some stories/examples in The Healing Power of Prayer, new and expanded edition)

As we move on up on the escalator, we  will experience, like Jesus, our divinity. In the embrace of boundless love, we tap into our spiritual power, and grace overflows like a river blessing us and all whom we are praying for beyond our wildest dreams. It is so much more than we can hope for or imagine!

24 Catholic Universities host Department of Defense (DoD) officer military training schools on campus. These military training bases, by their own admission, teach war and killingkilling without conscience.  In the modern day military over 80% of all officers are trained on campuses that host the DoD military. 17 of the 24 Catholic Universities that host Department of Defense training centers for the Army (ROTC), Navy/Marines (NROTC), and/or Air Force (AROTC) are Jesuit Catholic Universities. For hosting military schools these universities receive many resources, including money, honor and pride.

All colleges and universities, unless deemed pacifist, by law are required to offer military training to receive any federal funding. However, they do not need to offer the military training on campus. There are only a limited number of schools that freely choose to host Department of Defense Military training programs (Army, Navy/Marine, and Air Force) on campus. All other colleges and universities send interested students to these host schools for military training.
On November 16, 2017 Roman Catholic activists will challenge nine of the 17 Jesuit universities that host ROTC, NROTC, and/or AFROTC. Their nonviolent witness will take place at:

St. Ignatius surrenders his sword before the altar of Black Madonna at Montserrat

The Jesuits were founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola, a former soldier. To become a companion of Jesus Christ, he surrendered his weapons of war and the glory of being a soldier of the court to become One with the poor and vulnerable. In his famous work, The Spiritual Exercises, he talks about the three temptations of evil being riches, honor and pride. Are not these the lure of voluntarily hosting the Department of Defense on Jesuit campuses?

On Nov. 16, 2017 we celebrate the feast of the El Salvadoran Jesuit Martyrs who were killed by USA trained military. One of the Jesuit martyrs in El Salvador was Father Ignacio Ellacuria S.J. In a 1985 interview with an American Jesuit priest, Ellacuria was asked about ROTC at Georgetown University, a Jesuit university in Washington D.C. His response was: “Tell the Jesuits of Georgetown that they are committing mortal sin because they are supporting the forces of death which are killing our people.”

The message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is clear: Do not kill, love your enemies, do good to those that harm you, be willing to die for your faith and values and not kill for them. The message of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Father Ellacuria S. J. and our Jesuit Catholic Pope is clear: Violence and war lead only to death.
