Nuns on the Bus Go to Mar-a-Lago for Tax Justice Truth Tour
Prayer for all Souls Day By Joyce Rupp in Prayer Seeds
We turn to you, Comforter and Sustainer of Hope. We remember the presence of those we knew. Once more we entrust them to your abiding love, praying for their peace and ours, too. We gather strength from kinship with those whose hearts also ache with the absence of their loved ones. Grant us freedom from our grief. With your grace we will surrender at best we can to the mystery of death and what lies beyond it. In you we place our trust. Amen.
Prayer for all Souls Day
By Joyce Rupp in Prayer Seeds
Namaste. I greet the strength of the ancestors in you.
Leader: In the spirit of indigenous people who believe in their unity with the ancestors, and who often call the spirits forth into their gatherings, let us call forth into midst the presence, the memory, and the strength of those who influenced and shaped our beliefs and values.
Prayer (alternate sides) Spirit of our ancestors,
this day we join in acknowledging the blessedness
of the many who inspired us and shaped our faith.
We turn in memory and appreciation
toward those ancestors in our family of origin
who influenced and encouraged us to live as our best selves.
We remember, too, those ancestors who left this world
with hurts unresolved. We open our deep self to you
and pray that any woundedness we’ve inherited
will be healed through your grace and our love filled hearts.
We bring to mind others beyond family who enriched our lives
and led us further on our journey of personal transformation.
We honor all those who sacrificed and suffered
in order for peace and justice to be furthered on the planet.
We give thanks and rejoice for the countless, unnamed persons
whose lives left a lasting mark of kindness and compassion.
May the remembrance of each of these blessed ones
inspire and increase our personal commitment
to leave a trace of goodness wherever we go.
When we depart the sphere of life may our inner strength
Have contributed to individual and world peace.
A Prayer of Lamentation (From: No Ordinary Time by Jan Phillips, 2011)
A world once verdant is suffering, her oceans and rivers now poisoned.
Blind men rule with no mercy, and the sighted refuse to speak.
Children cry out with hunger, their tongues parched for water that's pure.
Do you hear the cry of my wailing? Like a widow I mourn day and night.
Enemies spring from our ignorance; armies rise up from our fear.
Forgetting we started as family, we draw boundaries and call brothers foes.
Great are you and All Glorious, Creator of heaven and earth.
HaShem, Holy Mother, Our Father,
I bow before you in tears.
Judge us not, but move us forward, past this era of weapons and war
Kneed us like dough in your hands, shape us into servants of truth.
Low is my head bowed in shame for all the ways we betray you.
Money and might have consumed us, our forests we’re trading for meat.
Nowhere are children safe from the clutch of capital’s claw
Our skin is parched and dry, because of the heat of our greed.
Politicians betray the people; religions have forgotten their role.
Quiet are the voices of reason while the hateful shout all night long.
Restore our sight, that we see our enemies more clearly.
Send us light and remove our blinders.
Though we fear the unknown, guide us toward it.
Until we find our common center, hope is lost.
Violence and terror are rampant; in your name we destroy and kill.
We bring guns not bread to the altar; our wine is the blood of our kin.
You have made a cosmos of grandeur; in our hands is this one world to shape.
Zealots of love awaken! Let your kindness spill over the land.

Readings for the Feast of All Saints
November 1 2018
Mary Mother of Jesus, Inclusive Catholic Community
First Reading from Pope Francis: GAUDETE ET EXSULTATE, paragraph 16 (Call to Holiness)
This holiness to which (our God) calls you will grow through small gestures. Here is an example: a woman goes shopping, she meets a neighbor and they begin to speak, and the gossip starts. But she says in her heart: “No, I will not speak badly of anyone”. This is a step forward in holiness. Later, at home, one of her children wants to talk to her about his hopes and dreams, and even though she is tired, she sits down and listens with patience and love. That is another sacrifice that brings holiness. Later she experiences some anxiety, but recalling the love of the Virgin Mary, she takes her rosary and prays with faith. Yet another path of holiness. Later still, she goes out onto the street, encounters a poor person and stops to say a kind word to him. One more step. The inspired word of Pope Francis. All Thanks be to God
Psalm 25 from Nan Merrill, Psalms An Invitation to Wholeness Response All: To you Oh God I lift up my soul.
To you, O love, I lift up my soul! O heart within my heart, in You I place my trust. Let me not feel unworthy; let not fear rule over me. Yes! May all who open their hearts savor You and bless the earth! All: To you Oh God I lift up my soul.
Compel me to know your ways, O Love; instruct me upon your paths. Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for through You will I know wholeness; I shall reflect your Light both day and night. All: To you Oh God I lift up my soul.
I know of your mercy, Blessed One, and of your unconditional Love; You have ben with me from the beginning. I seek your guidance, I year to know your Peace. Companion me as I open to your Will! All: To you Oh God I lift up my soul.
Yet, all too often glorious gifts of Grace, of Love and Light, are veiled by my busyness. I bow down before You; instruct me, that I might choose the way of love and truth. I would live in your abundant Love, and my children as well. Your friendship is offered to all whose hearts are open; You make know your promises to them. My eyes are ever on You, Beloved, keep my feet from stumbling along the way. All: To you Oh God I lift up my soul.
Second Reading from 1 John: 1-3 (adapted from)
See what love Abba God has lavished on us in calling us God’s Children! Yet that in fact is who we are. The reason that the world does not recognize this is that it never recognized God. My dear sisters and brothers, now we are God’s children, but it has not been revealed what we are to become in the future. We know that when it comes to light we will be like God, for we will see God as God really is. The Word of God. All: Thanks be to God
Gospel Reading Matthew 5:1-10
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on the mountainside, and after he sat down and disciples had gathered around, Jesus began to teach us:
Blessed are those who are poor in spirit; the kindom of heaven is theirs. Blessed are they who are mourning, they will be consoled. Blessed are they who are gentle, they will inherit the land. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice; they will have their fill. Blessed are those who show mercy to others; they will be shown mercy. Blessed are they whose hearts are clean; they will see God. Blessed are those who work for peace; they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of their struggle for justice the kindom of heaven is theirs. The Word of Jesus our Brother. All: God’s words are our truth; we join Jesus in his eternal kindom.

Thin Veil Moments by Joyce Rupp
Thin Veil Moments
By Joyce Rupp in Anchors for the Soul
Divine guest,
present to us
especially in our “thin veil” moments–
those brief experiences
where heaven and earth meet –
thank you for the quickening of our hearts,
the silencing of our words,
when we briefly know you are “in this place.”
Thank you for those times
the then veil between us parted
and we knew your love inseparable from our own.
Today: I treasure memories of “thin veil” moments.
Prayer of Gratitude for Thin Places
By Joyce Rupp in Prayer Seeds
Holy Mystery, We come to an awareness of how close you are to us when we are swept into a place of “knowing” that lies beyond our rational control. Today we remember and bring our gratitude for those quickly fleeting glimpses of our deep and strong unity with you. We turn again to draw strength from the unexplainable sureness of your abiding love. Remind us of this glimpse on the days when our minds and hearts seem far from you. Wrap us in the memories of our thin places when we knew without hesitation that we were one with you.

(from CROSSINGS by Y.M. Barnwell (c)1992)
I am sitting here wanting memories to teach me
to see the beauty in the world through my own eyes.
I am sitting here wanting memories to teach me
To see the beauty in the world through my own eyes.
You used to rock me in the cradle of your arms.
You said you'd hold me ‘til the pains of life were gone.
You said you'd comfort me in times like these and now I need you.
Now I need you...
And you are - gone.
I am sitting here wanting memories to teach me
to see the beauty in the world through my own eyes.
Since you've gone and left me, there's been so little beauty,
but I know I saw it clearly through your eyes.
Now the world outside is such a cold and bitter place.
Here inside I have few things that will console.
And when I try to hear your voice above the storms of life,
then I remember all the things that I was told.
I am sitting here wanting memories to teach me
to see the beauty in the world through my own eyes.
I am sitting here wanting memories to teach me
To see the beauty in the world through my own eyes.
I think on the things that made me feel so wonderful when I was young.
I think on the things that made me laugh, made me dance, made me sing.
I think on the things that made me grow into a being full of pride.
I think on these things, for they are true.
I am sitting here wanting memories to teach me
to see the beauty in the world through my own eyes.
I thought that you were gone, but now I know you're with me.
You are the voice that whispers all I need to hear.
I know a "Please", a "Thank you", and a smile will take me far.
I know that I am you and you are me, and we are one.
I know that who I am is numbered in each grain of sand.
I know that I am blessed,
again, and over again.
I am sitting here wanting memories to teach me
to see the beauty in the world through my own eyes.
I am sitting here wanting memories to teach me
To see the beauty in the world through my own eyes.
Standing on the Shoulders
by Joyce Johnson Rouse
I am standing on the shoulders of the ones who came before me
I am stronger for their courage, I am wiser for their words
I am lifted by their longing for a fair and brighter future
I am grateful for their vision, for their toiling on this Earth
We are standing on the shoulders of the ones who came before us
They are saints and they are humans, they are angels, they are friends
We can see beyond the struggles and the troubles and the challenge
When we know that by our efforts things will be better in the end
They lift me higher than I could ever fly
Carrying my burdens away
I imagine our world if they hadn't tried
We wouldn't be here celebrating today
I am standing on the shoulders of the ones who came before me
I am honored by their passion for our liberty
I will stand a little taller, I will work a little longer
And my shoulders will be there to hold the ones who follow me
They lift me higher than I could ever fly
Carrying my burdens away
I imagine our world if they hadn't tried
We wouldn't be so very blessed today
I am standing on the shoulders of the ones who came before me
I am honored by their passion for our liberty
I will stand a little taller, I will work a little longer
And my shoulders will be there to hold the ones who follow me
