"Women Worthy": Reflection by Deacon Rita Lucey, ARCWP

A REFLECTION
Rita Lucey
September 2014
To all the women
Who birthed the sons
Nourished
Those nine months
In the womb
Brought forth
In pain
To proclaim a Christ
Forgotten

A Jesus whose words
Ignored
As men became
The lords
And patriarchy
Held sway
Denigrating the
Womb that bore them.

Oh these many years
Chastened, scourged
Found less than
We cried “Let us in”
We too are worthy!

But “No!“ they said
Parading in their royal
Robes and pointed hats
Red slippers and
Golden crosses
Speaking untruths
Through their
Power

Humbled, humiliated
We knelt in obedience
To the powers that were
That are,
And LO! That day when
They are no more
And we take our rightful place
With our brothers
Side by side
Priests ordained to be
And our children
And grandchildren
Sing
Hallelujah

Christ is truly risen!
