Now, Call to Demand Reform in First 100 Days of a New
Congress
This
morning, we weep. The Supreme Court issued a 4-4 ruling in U.S. v. Texas,
and in doing so, denied peace of mind to millions across the country who are at
risk of having their families torn apart due to our broken immigration system.
As people of faith, we know that we are all called to welcome the stranger and
protect families. Today, the Supreme Court denied both of these sacred
truths.
Deferred
Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) and Deferred Action for Childhood
Arrivals (DACA) are responsible efforts to prioritize resources and protect
families. The Supreme Court had the opportunity to provide clarity and guidance
for the nation. Instead, they turned their backs on our immigrant sisters and
brothers.
Today's
decision means that all Pope Francis voters must double-down on ensuring that
immigration is a deciding issue at the polls this fall. There is a lot riding on
this election in November. As Pope Francis says, "we must build bridges, not
walls." Join me today in calling your Members of Congress to remind them that
the solution lies in comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to
citizenship.
To
call your Senators, dial 1-888-738-3058.
Call twice to reach
both Senators
To
call your Representative, dial 1-888-410-0619.
When
you call, here's what you might say:
"My name is Lee, and I am a member
of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice. I am devastated by today's Supreme
Court decision in U.S. v. Texas, but I know that the real solution lies
in congressional action on immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship.
This is a voting issue for me. Will the [SENATOR/CONGRESSPERSON] commit to
immigration reform in the first 100 days of a new Congress?"
Please
share this message with your friends and neighbors, and share our
statement. Let us turn our weeping into righteous anger and action-- we need
immigration reform now!
