Women Preach:Fourth Sunday of Advent by Nontando Hadebe and Christmas by Christine Schenk, CSJ

Fourth Sunday of Advent;

of South Africa, gathers her thoughts for this Fourth Sunday of Advent around an African Proverb: "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

Reflecting on the readings of the day, Hadebe, points out that God chooses to engage humanity in a conversation to bring about Salvation together, even though God could have accomplished Salvation by God's self.

Hadebe invites us, who seek to "bring Emmanuel into our lives and into the world," to follow God's "way of conversation, working with, inclusion in the struggle for a world."

FutureChurch co-founder, columnist for the National Catholic Reporter, and nurse midwife Christine Schenk, CSJ preaches on the Christmas readings for Mass at night:
"My midwife's question for each of us tonight, is to ask in what way are we laboring, like Mary, to birth God's abiding love into a world so much in need of it?
In what way are we, like Joseph, supporting the efforts of all who labor on behalf of the marginalized -- refugees, immigrants, the homeless poor or victims of sex-trafficking?
In what way are we, like the midwives, supporting our powerful birthing God, who longs for right relationship and protection of a Mother Earth that in fact, gave birth to us all? "
