As we celebrate this feast day, Sister Norma Pimentel reminds us, "as followers of Jesus, the most urgent priority that we have is to see the face of God in every human being and especially those who are most vulnerable in our community." And when we find Christ in those around us -- especially those who aret vulnerable -- "It is there that we find salvation. It is hat

Wedding Reflection- Bridget Mary Meehan ARCWP

Sheila and Ed, today we come together to celebrate your sacred union. We rejoice that (you) “have found the one my soul loves.” (Song of Solomon 2:4)

Sheila and Ed, we celebrate your deep love and mutual caring for each other in the holy covenant of marriage. Your words on the front page of the liturgy reflects the heart of Christian marriage: “From this day forward, our thoughts and actions will be for each other…our plans, mutual, our joys and sorrows shared…as we become one in Christ”

As a couple, united in marriage, you are responding to Jesus’ call to faithful love: “Take care of each other, just as I have cared for you. (Jn. 15:12-13) Sheila and Ed, you will write a new sacred story about God’s love in your marriage, and in your service to others. In your goodness, kindness and generosity to others, you are and will continue to be a reflection of the face of God in our midst.

Contemporary theologians tell us that the meaning of a wedding comes from the people who participate in it. Let us commend Sheila, who wrote this beautiful liturgy, and both Ed and Sheila for inviting Robert and myself to represent their two beautiful faith traditions as wedding officiants at this Ecumenical Eucharist on Manasota Beach today. Let us rejoice that we are one family in Christ at whose table all are welcome as we celebrate this wedding!
