The one thing all humans have in common is that each of us wants to be happy, says Brother David Steindl-Rast, a monk and interfaith scholar. And happiness, he suggests, is born from gratitude. An inspiring lesson in slowing down, looking where you’re going, and above all, being grateful...."Gratitude can change our world in immensely
important ways, because if you're grateful you're not
fearful, and if you're not fearful you're not violent. If
you're grateful you act out of a sense of enough and not
of a sense of scarcity and you are willing to share." Since
we've lived under the Power Pyramid for so many
hundreds of years, can do you think being grateful
inspire revolution? Brother David: The reason why the Power PyramidFearfulness makes you violent and the root of violence is
fearfulness.
Oprah Winfrey: Yes, absolutely.
Brother David: And then this fear builds this pyramid because the one is
a little high up and the others is fearful that somebody
else might get there, and so used violence to oppress
the others. There's already oppression. Oprah Winfrey: Yeah. So when we see the terrorists throughout the
world, the violence being enacted upon people
throughout the world, all those people are doing that
because they're afraid. Brother David: Exactly. And they are afraid of one another that the
other one would get ahead. ..."
