Manifesto of March 8: "The participation of women in the Church is the germ of life"
THE ASSOCIATION OF SPANISH TEÓLOGAS INVITES YOU TO JOIN A "CHURCH OF EQUALS"
"Listening to and caring for women is a guarantee of the future for humanity"
United against violence against women in its various symbolic and physical, social and ecclesial forms
( Association of Spanish Theologians ) .- On the occasion of March 8, the Association of Spanish Theologians has made a Manifesto, and invites all groups committed to the construction of a Church of Equals to join:
1 We need to talk about women and not about "the woman"
God became incarnated to be a concrete human being, a particular and unrepeatable historical person, Jesus. His life, and not another, his words, and not others, his death and his resurrection are what make us present in a more intimate and close to God. The God of Jesus does not move in the generalities , which homogenize and reify what they claim to describe. That is why Jesus always addresses the person in front of him, calls him by his name and makes it a manifestation of His grace (Lk 7, 48-50, 8,43-48 ...).
In the same vein, talking about "the woman" , as if it were a generic category, instead of "the women", in the plural, belittles what she wants to describe: she assumes that we all feel the same, act the same and live the same. That a general idea of "the woman" is valid for all. What characterizes life, that is, personal experience, is thus blurred. And only in this space, only in the particular experience of each woman and each man, does the God of Jesus present, reconcile and restore. Reconciliation is not a general and abstract principle that affects little. On the contrary, it shapes life in its most concrete expression.
Just as God is not a hypothesis, an object of study to which we can move here or there as appropriate, neither are women: each of us is a place of manifestation of God in his life and concrete experiences.
2. We are daughters and sons of God by the same baptism. Sisters and brothers in Christ in discipleship of equals.
The creation stories in Gn. 1 and 2 speak of the creation of a human being as a being in relationship : from the beginning this is created as a man and as a woman. Neither of them possesses the other nor is it the measure of the other: the measure, the image, is always that of God. In this sense, the human being, whether male or female, expresses his being God's image when he recognizes and appreciates the existence of others (whether from God, or from his peers, men and women).
Man and woman are not fragments, pairs of opposites, that together express the image of God, like two pieces of a puzzle that fit to reflect a superior image, but through baptism we have been marked to bring to fullness the humanity that we live in each one, without depending on or complement one another or make differences and discriminations, because it is Christ who dignifies us by making us sisters and brothers before God.
That is why, in the recognition of the worth and dignity of man to woman and of woman to man, we become the body of Christ , a diverse Church and on the way, driven by the power of the Spirit (Rom 8:14). We are all sons and daughters of God equally (2Co 5,17, Gal 3, 27-28), recreated in his image (2Co 3,18). We are all the people of God (1Pe 2,9).
