Janice Seve Duszynska ARCWP with Medea Benjamin and Code Pink Activists Calling for Sanctions Against Saudi Arabia |
It was quite a day witnessing first with Codepink at the White House. Tighe Barry, Medea's partner was dressed as Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and he carried a "royal bone saw" studded with jewels.. He wore bloodied rubber gloves. Dave Barrrow was a paunchy Trump with bloodied hands too. There were Codepink Women from San Francisco that I knew from Creech AFB actions. We were joined by Sr Megan
and folks from Dorothy Day CW and other activists, including former Colonel Ann Wright, a former diplomat of many years who spoke to us and the people who joined us. Lots of media. We then walked on the road with a police escort to the State Department to take a petition regarding Khashoggi's murder. Along the way we called out various chants.
Medea had to do lots of talking to get someone to take the petition. After an hour's wait, someone finally showed up. We then headed to the Saudi Embassy where a security contingent stood in front, above the steps. Medea and a couple of us wanted to sit down and she did as we were tired. Immediately a security guard put one handcuff on her. After she told him it wasn't
her intention to be arrested, he removed it. That's the first time I had ever seen that happen. After Medea spoke, she invited me to lead a prayer in memory of Jamal Khashoggi. Afterwards we sang " Peace, Salem, Shalom," as our day of witnessing ended. We gathered at the excellent restaurant across the street for a delicious meal, then made our way to the CODEPINK house to rest, share our stories of the day and have a light supper. Some of the women
accompanied to the nearby Metro where I caught the MARC train back to Baltimore.
