Welcome

(Linda) Welcome to our liturgical gathering on this Saturday afternoon. We thank our readers and IT team for being part of our liturgical team today. When speaking please unmute and re-mute yourself. During the shared homily we ask you to unmute yourself to contribute your thoughts and when you are finished, remember to re-mute yourself. Have bread and wine/juice in front of you for communion and a lighted candle to remind us that God is always present. And now, let us quiet our hearts so that we may fully hear the words of our Creator.

(Elena) We are still in the season of Easter. We are closing out the 5th week of Eastertide and next week we will already be celebrating the Feast of the Ascension. Because there continues to be so much happening in our country and our world, it is so easy for us to forget about Easter. Today let us spend a moment of our time pondering how Christ throughout  his life taught us by word and example how to drink in love, peace and forgiveness. He fills our cups, and we just have to drink it all in. Let us begin by listening to children who are all trusting and whose cups are filled with joy  knowing that The Hoy One forgives everyone, everywhere. Don’t hesitate to join in song and sign.

OPENING PRAYER

(Linda and All:) Holy One,  we gather today with our favorite cup or mug in hand to offer you praise and thanksgiving. We ask you to grant us the grace to joyfully and gratefully drink in from the cup of love and forgiveness that you, who are never outdone in generosity, continuously fill and replenish. May we Learn to be aware of your Presence every time we lift this favorite cup or mug to our lips. May we be aware with every cup of COFFEE,  that Christ Offers Forgiveness For Everyone Everywhere

All:  May it be so.

“Forgive One Another”  sung by the Lifetree Kids (FFM)

(Elena) Let us pause for a moment to  reflect on the message just shared with us in song.

Please raise your hand in blessing and say:

All:  I am sorry.   Please forgive me.   Thank you.   I love you.

GLORIA

(Elena and All)  Glory and praise in the highest, and peace to all God’s people. Creator God, heart of the universe, we thank you for the breath of Your Spirit at work in everything that exists, everywhere in the cosmos.  Through the life and teaching of Jesus, you opened our minds and hearts so that we could be mindful of the outpouring of your unconditional love and forgiveness for everyone everywhere. By the Spirit gift of understanding we are mindful of your dwelling within us and all creation. What unspeakable joy is ours when we are aware that we can experience your Presence in our brothers and sisters.  May your praise and thanksgiving be ever in our hearts and on our lips.

Let us join Linda in a joyful Gloria.

Liturgy of the Word

(Elena) The First Reading from 1st letter of John 10-13 will be read by Lee Breyer

(Lee)

This is the kind of love we are talking about- not that we once upon a time loved God but that God first loved us. My dear, dear friends if God has loved us, we certainly ought to love each other. No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us- perfect love! This is how we know we are living steadily and deeply in God , and God in us. The Holy One has given us life from his life, from his very own Spirit.

These words are shared from a letter of John the Evangelist and we respond:   So Be It!

(Jerry B)  Psalm 139 clearly details the kind of “spill over love” promised by The Holy One.

All: O my Beloved, You have searched me,  and known me.

You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You discern my innermost thoughts.

You find me on the journey and guide my steps; You know my strengths and weaknesses.

Even before words rise up in prayer, you have already heard my heart call.

You encompass me with love wherever I go and your strength is my shield.

All: O my Beloved, You have searched me, and known me.

Such sensitivity is too wonderful for me: boundless gratitude is my response.

For you formed my  inward  being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you for you are to be reverenced and adored. Your mysteries fill me with wonder!

More than I know myself do you know me; my essence was not hidden from you

All: O my Beloved, You have searched me, and known me.

Search me O my Beloved, and know my heart. Try me and discern my thoughts!

Help me to face the darkness within me; enlighten me that I might radiate your Love and Light!

All: O my Beloved, You have searched me, and known me.

(Elena) The Gospel chosen from John 15:9-17 will be proclaimed by Linda Miller

(Linda)

I’ve loved you the way my father has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my love. If you keep my commands you’ll remain intimately at home in my love. That’s what I’ve done—kept my Father’s commands and made myself at home in his love. I’ve told you these things for a purpose that my joy may be your joy, and your joy wholly mature. This is my command - Love one another the way I love you. This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends. You are my friends when you do the things I command you. I’m no longer calling you servants because servants don’t understand what  their master is thinking and planning. No, I’ve named you friends because I’ve let you in on everything I’ve heard from the Father.

This passage is a contemporary rendering of a scripture reading from John the Evangelist as interpreted by Eugene Peterson in “The Message”  And we respond:  Thanks be to God

Homily Starter

Communal Statement of Faith

(Lee and All): We believe in one God, a divine mystery beyond all definition and rational understanding, the heart of all that has ever existed, that exists now, or that ever will exist.

We believe in Jesus, messenger of God's Word, bringer of God's healing, heart of God's compassion, bright star in the firmament of God's prophets, mystics, and saints.

We believe that we are called to follow Jesus as a vehicle of God's love, a source of God's wisdom and truth, and an instrument of God's peace in the world.

We believe that God's kin-dom is here and now, stretched out all around us for those with eyes to see it, hearts to receive it, and hands to make it happen.

PRAYERS OF AND FOR THE COMMUNITY

(Elena):  We now bring our prayer intentions to the Table

Our response is:   All:     We drink in your Love and Forgiveness

We pray for our MMOJ intentions on our community prayer list. (Joan shares)

For what else should we pray?

Elena:   Holy Mystery may we respond to the needs of our sisters and brothers in loving prayer and solidarity. Amen

PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS

Linda: Gracious God, you have set the banquet table and have invited all of us to a feast of unending delight.  Blessed are You, Holy One, through Your divine providence we have this bread, to share, the Bread of Life.                                                                                                                  Linda and All: Blessed are You, Holy One, forever.

Elena: Blessed are You, O Loving One, through Your divine providence we have this wine to share, our spiritual drink.

Elena and All: Blessed are You, Holy One, forever.

Linda: Let us lift up our hearts.

Linda and All:  We lift them up to the Holy One, living in us and loving through us.  Namaste (3x)

Eucharistic Prayer

(Jerry B): Gracious Wisdom, you embrace us with your extravagant affection in our times of both blessedness and weakness.  You are always with us…you living in us and we living in you.  In this festive meal, your Spirit is poured out on each of us gathered in the circle of your friends and disciples, we also ask that your Spirit be spread to those of our community who are not with us today.

Let us rejoice as we sing:

All:  Holy, Holy, Holy Linda Lee Miller (adapted from Holy, Holy, Holy by Karen Drucker)

https://www.youtu.be.m/watch?v=orKBBIj5LZA

Voice: We ask you to enliven anew in our hearts the empowering grace of your abundant Spirit, who infuses for us these gifts of bread and wine with the transforming energy of life, to nourish and sustain us in all times and especially in times of need.

(Linda): We thank you for the gift of Jesus of Nazareth in history -- and the gift of Jesus in faith. On earth, his life burned with the vision of his mission on earth. Through the example of his life

– his teachings and actions - he showed us not only how we should live, but also for what it is worth dying.

(Elena) (Please all extend hands as we recite the epiclesis and consecration together)

All:  MAY YOUR SPIRIT, PRESENT IN THESE GIFTS AND IN US, FILL US WITH A NEW OUTPOURING OF LOVE THAT MAKES US MORE DEEPLY ONE BODY IN THE COSMIC CHRIST LIVING THE FULLNESS OF YOUR COMPASSION.

(Elena): On the night before he was betrayed, Jesus gathered with his friends for a meal. He took bread into his hands broke it and said:

ALL: TAKE THIS ALL OF YOU, AND EAT IT. THIS BREAD IS YOU; THIS BREAD IS ME. WE ARE ONE BODY. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

(Elena): In the same way after supper, Jesus took the cup, raised it with love beyond all telling, gave thanks, and sharing the cup with those at table he said:

All: TAKE THIS ALL OF YOU AND DRINK FROM IT. THIS IS THE CUP OF MY LIFE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND EVERLASTING COVENANT WHICH WILL BE SHED FOR EVERYONE. EVERYTIME YOU DRINK OF IT, REMEMBER ME.

(Linda):   Jesus who was with God “in the beginning of the creation of the heavens and the earth” is now with us in this bread and this cup. Now then, in sacred memory let us proclaim the mystery of our faith.

All:   IN EVERY CREATURE THAT HAS EVER BREATHED, WE SEE YOUR TENDERNESS; IN EVERY LIVING BEING THAT HAS PASSED ON BEFORE US WE SEE YOUR GOODNESS; IN EVERYTHING YET TO BE, CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN! IN OUR BREAKING OF THE BREAD OF EARTH, CHRIST OF THE COSMOS IS BEING RE-MEMBERED! WE LIVE IN THE JOY OF BEING LOVED BY OUR EXTRAVAGANT GOD!

(Jerry B):  God, we know that you bless your church throughout the world. We, your people, ask for your grace that we may continually grow in our love and caring for everyone with whom we come in contact, especially those who live on the margins of church and society. They are all our brothers and sisters, members of your Blessed Family.  We remember also all those, living and dead, who touched our lives and left their footprints on our hearts.  We remember especially….(mention names here, if you would like to..)

All: We believe that the Spirit of God is at work in and among us and will do more than we could ever ask or imagine.  We believe that it is through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity with Holy Spirit Sophia Wisdom,  that all glory and honor is yours, Creator God, forever and ever.

Great Amen: Linda Lee Miller

(Elena and All):  We are the Body and Blood of Christ for the world.

Let us now pause for a moment to be mindful of this event– remembering that Jesus promised to be present among us every time we break bread and drink from the blessed cup.

Prayer after Communion

(Linda):  O  Holy One,  may love, wonder, gratitude and thanksgiving fill us. May compassionate love fully fill our hearts.  May we be ever mindful that You are a God of Compassion and with our cups filled to the brim, may we continue to be Your face to each other. Amen.
