The Supreme Court of the United States has finally done what Catholics for Choice supporters like you have long expected, overturning Roe v. Wade and robbing women, people who can get pregnant, and our families of our fundamental reproductive freedom. Now is the time for YOU to channel your fury and fear into action, and turn your hope for the future into real progressive change.
We must act at all levels to adequately respond to this crisis. Here are some actions you can take now:
- Urge President Biden to take executive action. With the stroke of a pen, our pro-choice Catholic president can enact a whole-of-government response to this crisis by declaring a public health emergency and utilizing federal lands and resources to expand abortion access.
- Call on the Senate to abolish the filibuster and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act. WHPA is essential legislation that would guarantee the right to provide and access abortion care nationwide, but it is being blocked by a small group of Senators who refuse to act.
- Tell Congress: Advance the Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA would allow for lawsuits against abortion bans and help eliminate healthcare restrictions that discriminate on the basis of sex. It will enshrine abortion protections into law for good.
Find a protest near you. Get outside and join fellow co-conspirators in the days ahead. Make your voice as a pro-choice Catholic heard!
- Donate to organizations working to provide abortion access. Your gift today will not only support the work here at Catholics for Choice, it will also go directly to providing abortion access for those most impacted by today’s decision. In solidarity with our partners on the ground, half of the donations we receive from this email will be given to New Mexico Abortion Funds (a collaboration of New Mexico RCRC, Indigenous Women Rising, and the Mariposa Fund).
We all have a part to play in defending the right to essential healthcare. Guided by our faith and our Catholic social justice values, we will ensure that all people everywhere can freely determine their sexual and reproductive destines with dignity, respect, and affirmation. I am so glad you are part of the Catholics for Choice community. We are in this together.
In solidarity,
Shannon Russell
