“Gisele Pelicot“ by Rev. Mary Sue Barnett ARCWP

Sisters of the World

When trauma grips

Your airways and

Takes your breath

Join hands with millions

Upon distant shores

Look to Avignon,

Open your pained

Hearts to Gisele,

Who opens her

Heart to you

When trauma freezes

You in a past horror

Lifeless as a rag

Doll, Squeeze the

Hands you hold,

Sway with collective

Spirit, toward distant

Shores, awaken to

Gisele, who is

Awake to you

If trauma sends

Phantoms of the

Past, screaming in

The night, lock

Arms en masse

Sisters of the World,

Take flight as

Collective soul in

Armor, toward distant

Lands, and be the

Battle with Gisele who

Battles for all women

If trauma traps

You in closed

Horizons of past

Terror, feel the

Pulse of truth

In the hands you

Hold, the shackles

Of shame will

Cut and run

With boots on,

Marching through opacious

Walls of rape culture

To shake down violators

If trauma of yesteryear

Trembles your earth today

Embrace your sisters

For footing and love,

Look to the woman

Of Avignon, whose soul

Sees healing pools

Welcoming all women

To wade and rejoice

There is no church,

No temple, no mosque,

No ashram to

Match the transparency

Of Gisele, the righteous

Woman of Avignon

May it be written

On the hearts

Of Sisters of the World,

Merci Gisele
