An Australian religious educator, and author of Tomorrow's Catholic and Jesus in a New Millennium, Michael writes for Catholics who are ready to move from medieval theology with an emphasis on sin to a faith that grapples with issues facing people of faith today.
No surprise some of his ideas got him in hot water with the hierarchy!
Here is a quote from In Memory of Jesus , pp.86-87
Mary Mother of Jesus Inclusive Catholic Church is living Gospel equality and working for justice now. www.marymotherofjesus.org |
"My intent was to show that there was another story in our scriptures and in our Christian tradition about God. It is not the story of God disconnected from creation and from humanity. Rather it is a story about God as a universal presence "charging" all that exists. And there is another story about Jesus as savior. It is not a story about Jesus bridging a supposed disconnection between God and humanity. It is the story of Jesus who wanted to open people's minds to God's presence with them in their everyday lives. It is the story of Jesus who wanted people to draw upon God's abiding presence and create the kingdom of God here on earth. I wanted people to understand that the very same Spirit of God that moved in and sustained Jesus is present in every human person whether they are aware of it or not."
Bridget Mary's Response:
Amen, Michael! When we are aware of God's Spirit moving through us, loving through us, healing through us, we can transform the world! Let us be the change God has called us to be every day of our lives as we live loved, liberated and as equals now! Bridget Mary Meehan ARCWP, www.arcwp.org
