“God has Chosen Me”
I had read the quote used for our “I believe” today about a month ago. I realized only yesterday that Feb 6 was my 9th year anniversary of RCWP ordination. It lifts my heart as I am reminded how much our Loving God cares for us!
The three readings for today call us to reflect on how much God loves us unconditionally from before we are born. The readings use the metaphor or image of marriage, of weddings, to teach of God’s presence and unconditional love in our lives.
We each have been chosen by God to live the Catholic Christian Path of following Jesus’ Way. What has our God of Holy Mystery chosen for your life’s journey? Our life comes with changes as we grow in our relationship to Jesus our wise elder Brother.
How close God is to us. How intimate our relationship to God if we are open and seek a deeper relationship with our God of Holy Mystery. God chose for you a special path of ministry, of meeting our Sisters’ and Brothers’ needs in our circles of life. And this call may change as we grow and learn about the Holy Mystery of our Source of All Being, Living Word and Holy Spirit Sofia throughout our lifetime of our faith journey.
In the wedding at Cana, do you think Mary is a feminine image of God? She is the One who tells Jesus, “Do something about the lack of wine” An obedient grumbling Jesus changes the water into wine, the ordinary to the miraculous. We are called to do the same, to follow and live what our God Mother/Father asks of us.

Readings for MMOJ Liturgy “God Has Chosen Me” Feb 6 2019
First Reading: Isaiah 62:1-5
For Zion’s sake, I will not be silent; for the sake of Jerusalem, I will not rest---not until her integrity shines like the dawn, her deliverance like a flaming torch…. You will be a garland of beauty in YHWH’s hands a solemn crown worn by your God.  Never again will you be called Forsaken; never again will your land be called Desolate.  But you will be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land will be called Married.  For YHWH will take delight in you and your land will be joined with God in wedlock.  For just as a young couple marry,… and as a newly married couple rejoice over each other, so will YHWH rejoice over you. The Word of God All: Thanks be to God who has chosen us.
Psalm 125  (adapted from Nan Merrill “Psalms from Praying an Invitation to Wholeness, p 260)
Response All: Come enter the Garden of Love
Those who put their trust in You are like giant trees standing firm and rooted deep. As the trees grow strong in fertile soil, so we mature in the Garden of Love, nourished by the Word of Life. All: Come enter the Garden of Love
For the weeds of fear, the tares of ignorance, find no home here; they are soon cast out. As each flower in its uniqueness blesses the garden, the interconnectedness of all brings it to fulfillment. All: Come enter the Garden of Love
Those whose lives reflect goodness and integrity, become mirrors to Love’s way.  They are like fragrant blossoms that bring joy to all around them, like open invitations for others to come. All: Come enter the Garden of Love
Gospel John 2:1-11
Three days later, there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, was there.  Jesus and his disciples had likewise been invited to the celebration.  At a certain point, the wine ran out, and Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no wine.”  Jesus answered her, “Mother what does that have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.”  Mary instructed those waiting on tables, ‘Do whatever Jesus tells you.’”
As prescribed for Jewish Ceremonial washings, there were six stone water jars on hand, each one holding between 15 and 25 gallons. “Fill those jars with water,” Jesus said, and the servers filled them to the brim. “Now,” said Jesus, “draw some out and take it to the caterer.” The servers did as they were instructed.
The caterer tasted the water---which had been turned into wine---without knowing where it had come from; the only ones who knew were those who were waiting on tables, since they had drawn the water.  The caterer called the bride and groom over and remarked, “People usually serve the best wine first; then, when the guests have been drinking a while, a lesser vintage is served.  What you’ve done is to keep the best wine until now!”
Jesus performed this first of his signs at Cana in Galilee; in this way he revealed his glory, and the disciples believed in him. The Good News of our Loving Brother
Shared Homily: Whose love has taught you about commitment that lasts? Whose tenderness has invited you to become a real lover of yourself and others? Has Jesus supplied your lack in time of need-spiritually, emotionally or in any way you needed?

Profession of Faith. All: God loves me. God chooses me. God wants me, more than anything.  God wants my happiness, God desires my freedom.  God seeks my eternal companionship. God is the one whose love I can count on.  God has been in the business of loving me since before I was in my mother’s womb. Amen

Presider: Always mindful of God’s love and care for us, we bring the needs of God’s people to our loving Abba, Sophia and Brother Jesus. Response: Christ who loves us, hear our prayer.
Presider:  By our lives may we share that all are chosen by our God of Evolutionary Love, we pray. Response.
Presider: In 2019, may we stand in solidarity with all those who are marginalized and work for justice and equality, we pray.. Presider: For what else should we pray…
Presider: We know you hear our prayers; those we speak and those we keep in our hearts. May our acts arise from the knowing you love each of us unconditionally.
All: Amen

All: On the night before he died, while at supper with his friends, Jesus took bread, broke it, and shared it with those present, saying, “Take this, all of you, and eat. This is my body which will be broken for you.” (Pause)

Then Jesus took a cup of wine and shared it with those present, saying, Take this all of you and drink. This is the cup of my life-blood. Do this in memory of me.
