The Church founded by Jesus Christ does NOT believe that reception into Holy Orders is "first and foremost for ME" but rather that reception into Holy Orders is first and foremost "For the CHURCH, for service of the Faithful." God does not bestow ordination upon someone becasue he wants to honor that person, or becasue that person os worthy of the gift, but becasue God wants that person to feed the Faithful with his Body and Blood in Word and Sacrament.
Ordination in the Catholic Church is not "For ME" but rather "For the Church."
I assure you if ANY priest to be ever uttered the words "Ordination is first and foremost for me" they would be shown the door.

That is, that "GOD's LOVE IS ACTIVELY ENGAGED WITH HUMANITY" is first and foremost for her ministry and, therefore, the public ordination is important.

and, well, with regards to the final comment...it no longer fits with the ACTUAL TRUE quote, but, if we go with your original intent, it's hard not to chuckle.
not only do i not have time sift through all the selfish statements ever uttered by priests in order to share a good one, but also i don't wish to play that game.
you KNOW your statement is UNTRUE. you KNOW priets have done far worse and not been shown the door. and you KNOW there are selfish priests out there, just as there are selfish people. we all are part of humanity.

You are right. When I read the article it is quite clear that Groppenbacher means that her ordination is a public acknowledgement that God's love being actively engaged with humanity will be first and foremost in her life and her ministry.
But maybe The Catholic Apologist did not twist the quote. Maybe he honestly misunderstood it. This seems to me to be a warning of how easy it is to misunderstand what people write.
Actually, Kathleen, I think Apologist did twist the quote. But, then, he is quite good at twisting quotes.
In reading the article (and I do subscribe to the paper version of the Arizona Republic), I actually thought that Mike Clancy -- whom I do know personally -- did not write up to his usual stellar capacity as a journalist.
This ordination was on the evening news. The reporters basically said the same thing as was covered in the article. I emailed both reporters -- and the news desk -- with a few additional points.
