"As for the U.S. Catholic bishops, ditto. They are continuing to lose touch with the majority of the Catholic laity by their unbending opposition to in vitro fertilization, embryonic stem cell research, women priests, abortion under all circumstances, and every form of gay rights--including civil partnerships that stop short of marriage..."

Bridget Mary,
The Church is not supposed to be "in touch" with the people. The Church is supposed to be "in touch" with the Word of God. As a result, people ought to be worried about being "in touch" with the Church, not the Church "in touch" with the people.
Can you please tell me Bridget Mary: IF the Church is going to ordain women, accept gay marriage, promote condoms, promote abortion, promote birth control, allow divorce and remarriage, and otherwise embrace a Gospel of liberal secularism----WHY BELONG TO IT? What is the POINT of a Church?
