A non-sacramental, female deacon makes no sense!
Also known as "the new women's auxilary"
The full equality of women in th church is the voice of God in out times.
Either the Vatican ordains women to be leaders in the local church with decision-making responsibilites like Phoebe, deacon and overseerer of the Church affirmed by Paul in Romans 16, or not. A non-sacramental diaconate is out of step with the early church's tradition. The Roman Catholic Women Priests Movement is growing and more and more Catholics are joining the "holy shakeup" that the hierarchy fears is a spiritual revolution. There are those who will celebrate this 'restoration ' of the female diaconate, but it is no such thing . I really real that this might delay matters with regard to women's ordination as priests, rather than move things forward. Besides some women are already doing these things. We want equality before God in order to best meet the needs of the whole church.
There will be those who will celebrate this 'resoration' of the female diaconate, but it is nothing of the kind if they are to be non-sacramental. Women are already taking these roles wihtout any title. This is not a step forward for woman's ordination, jus tone more wall to be demolished if we are to be equal before God in order to better serve God and people - the church.
