Until women are voting members of these Synods, the Roman Catholic Church will not reflect the face of God in half of its members nor proclaim the social justice teaching that all the baptized are equals and their voices must be counted in decisions about pastoral outreach. See the long list of voting members in the report below.
Sadly, women are excluded from voting. There is a huge credibility gap in any effort to reach out to youth and fail to allow representatives to vote on recommendations going forward. Sexism and clericalism within the Roman Catholic Church and the patriarchal structures that enshrine these toxic teachings and behaviors must change if Pope Francis and the bishops want to be credible in the 21st century.
Kudos to members of Future Church, Women's Ordination Conference Dignity, and all who demonstrated this past week in Rome. Your peaceful and prayerful demonstration is a prophetic voice crying out in the desert of our discontent with second class membership in our Church. You represent the majority of Catholics who want a more open, inclusive Church where women are treated as equals in every role and ministry. Thank you!
