Liturgy for Feast of Corpus Christi- Bridget Mary Meehan ARCWP

Theme:  The Living Presence of Christ Among Us

A Liturgy for An Inclusive Catholic Community Celebration

Theme: Christ is Present in the Bread We Break, the Cup We Share, and the Love We Become

Welcome

Welcome, beloved companions on the journey.

Today we celebrate Corpus Christi, the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. In contemporary theology, we understand this mystery not as a magical transformation of bread and wine separate from our lives, but as a sacred encounter with the living Christ who is present in our gathering, in the Word proclaimed, in the bread and cup we share, in creation itself, and in every act of love, justice, and compassion.

As we gather around this open table, we remember that Eucharist is not only something we receive. It is something we become. We are called to embody Christ’s presence in the world, becoming bread for the hungry, comfort for the grieving, hope for the discouraged, and justice for the oppressed.

All are welcome at this table of abundant love.

Transformation Rite

Let us pause and remember that we are held in Divine Love.

Holy One,
you call us beloved.

All: We are your beloved.

Christ,
you gather us into one body.

All: We are your body in the world.

Spirit of Life,
you renew us in love.

All: We are your instruments of peace.

May the God of boundless compassion,
the Christ of radical hospitality,
and the Spirit who dances through creation
bless us and make us whole.

Amen.

Opening Prayer

Loving God,
you are the Source of Life,
the Heart of the Universe,
the Holy Mystery dwelling within and among us.

In Jesus, you showed us
that divine presence is found
not in power or privilege,
but in shared meals,
open tables,
compassionate service,
and communities of love.

As we celebrate this Eucharist,
awaken us to your presence
within ourselves,
within one another,
and within all creation.

Transform us into the Body of Christ
for our wounded world.

We ask this through Jesus,
our brother,
our companion,
and the Christ who lives among us now.

Amen.

Profession of Faith

We believe in God,
the Holy Mystery beyond all names,
the Source of life and love.

We believe in Jesus,
who revealed God’s compassion
through inclusive love,
justice-making,
healing presence,
and courageous witness.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
who dwells within all people,
guiding creation toward wholeness.

We believe that every person
bears the image of God
and is worthy of dignity and respect.

We believe that Christ is present
in the gathered community,
in the proclamation of the Word,
in the bread and wine we share,
and in the lives of those who seek justice and peace.

We believe that we are called
to be the Body of Christ in the world,
living the Gospel through love in action.

Amen.

Prayers of the Community

Response:

Christ, nourish us in your love.

For the Church throughout the world,
that all communities may become places of radical welcome and healing.

Christ, nourish us in your love.

For those who hunger for food,
safety,
belonging,
and dignity.

Christ, nourish us in your love.

For leaders of nations,
that they may work for peace,
economic justice,
and care for creation.

Christ, nourish us in your love.

For those excluded from sacramental ministry because of gender, marital status, or sexual orientation,
that the Church may embrace the full equality of all the baptized.

Christ, nourish us in your love.

For our MMOJ community,
that we may continue to be bread broken and shared for the life of the world.

Christ, nourish us in your love.

(Community intentions)

Preparation of the Gifts

As bread and wine are brought forward:

Blessed are you,
God of all creation.

Through the generosity of Earth,
human labor,
and divine grace,
we receive this bread and wine.

May they become signs of Christ’s living presence among us.

Amen.

Eucharistic Prayer

Invitation

Holy One,
we thank you for your presence
throughout the universe,
in every star,
every living creature,
every human heart,
and every act of love.

You continually call us
into communion with one another.

Therefore, with all creation,
we sing:

Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, Holy, Holy One,
God of love and life.

Heaven and Earth are filled with your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed are all who come
in the name of our God.

Hosanna in the highest.

Epiclesis

Loving God,
send your Spirit upon us
and upon these gifts of bread and wine.

May they become for us
the living presence of Christ.

And may we become
the Body of Christ,
a force for compassion,
justice,
healing,
and peace in our world.

All: Amen.

Words of Institution:

On the night before he died,
Jesus gathered with his friends.

He took bread,
blessed it,
broke it,
and shared it, saying:

Take and eat.
This is my body.
Do this in memory of me.

When supper was ended,
he took the cup.

Giving thanks,
he shared it with them saying:

Take and drink.
This is the cup of the new covenant,
poured out in love for all.

Whenever you share this bread
and drink from this cup,
remember me.

Memorial Acclamation

All:

Christ lives among us.

Christ is present within us.

Christ will continue to transform the world through us.

Prayer of Remembrance

We remember Jesus:
his open table,
his compassion,
his courage,
his solidarity with the poor,
his healing presence,
his death,
and his resurrection life that continues among us.

Together with Mary of Nazareth,
Mary Magdalene,
Phoebe, Priscilla and Aquila
Junia,
all the saints,
and our ancestors in faith,
we celebrate this sacred mystery.

Great Amen

Through Christ,
with Christ,
in Christ,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

all glory and honor are yours,
Loving God,
forever and ever.

AMEN!

Communion Rite

Prayer of Jesus

Our Father and Mother,
who art in heaven,
holy is your name.
Your kin-dom come.
Your will be done
on Earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Lead us into paths of justice
and deliver us from all evil.

For the kin-dom,
the power,
and the glory are yours
now and forever.

Amen.

Sign of Peace

Christ calls us
to be bread for one another.

Let us share a sign of Christ’s peace.

Breaking of the Bread

We break this bread
and share this cup
because we are one body.

All: We are the Body of Christ.

Invitation to Communion

This is the bread of life.

This is the cup of blessing.

This is Christ’s table,
not ours.

All are welcome.

Prayer After Communion

Holy One,

in this sacred meal
we have remembered who we are.

We are your beloved.

We are Christ’s body.

We are called to carry your presence
into the world.

May the bread we have shared
strengthen us to feed the hungry.

May the cup we have shared
inspire us to pour ourselves out in love.

May this Eucharist continue
through our lives,
until justice,
peace,
and compassion flourish among all people.

Amen.

Final Blessing

May the God who is Love
surround you with grace.

May the Christ whom you have received
live through you.

May the Spirit who dwells within you
give you courage
to be bread for the hungry,
hope for the weary,
and companions to all who seek healing.

And may we go forth
as the living Body of Christ,
bringing God’s compassion
to our world.

Amen.

Sending Forth

Presider: Let us go in peace to love and serve.

All: We are the Body of Christ. Thanks be to God!
