We are witnessing a "holy shakeup" in the Roman Catholic Church. The Pope's resignation is a positive sign that the Spirit is at work renewing the church. Roman Catholic Women Priests are leading the way to a more open, inclusive church where all are welcome to receive sacraments. It is time for the Roman Catholic Church to follow Jesus's example of Gospel equality and accept women as equals and partners in the Gospel. The people of God are the church and the majority will welcome Benedict's resignation. The cover-up of the sex abuse scandal may have led to the Pope's decision. We need a top down shakeup and new structures of accountability in the Roman Catholic Church. Married priests, women priests, are only a few of the necessary steps the Vatican needs to take in a more just and compassionate church that honors the gifts of God in the people of God.
We have over 150 women priests internationally, today, including more than 100 in the U.S. Our communities are rising up BECAUSE THE PEOPLE (CATHOLICS) ARE READY! They want Gospels interpreted from women's living and dying! They want feminine as well as masculine images of God! They want a church that pays attention to the voice of the Spirit speaking through the grassroots (sensus fidelium) about issues that pertain to their everyday lives! Women Priests have been leading the church into its future for the past ten years. Now is the time for Catholics to live Gospel equality, the vision of Jesus in our times! Now is the time for Pink Smoke Over the Vatican!

Pope to resign Feb. 28, says he's too infirm

VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope Benedict XVI announced Monday that he would resign on Feb. 28 because he was simply too infirm to carry on - the first pontiff to do so in nearly 600 years. The decision sets the stage for a conclave to elect a new pope before the end of March. The 85-year-old pope announced his decision in Latin during a meeting of Vatican cardinals on Monday morning.

I am surprised, actually there isn't a word to describe the feeling I have right now. I pray that this is a step forward, and that the Vatican council uses this as an opportunity to move in a progressive manner out of the dark ages that eggs Benedict had lead the church in.
My prayers are with you and my hopes for transformation.
