We gather again this week for music and prayer, lament and thanksgiving. This week, though the calendar brings us to the celebrations of July 4th, our thoughts and emotions are still fresh with the pain and anger and grief we have experienced recently in current events and in the remembrances of Juneteenth and the memorials of the Stonewall violence on Pride Sunday. If it is thought that July 4th holds out the best values of our nation, then it is also clear this month that we have a long ways to go before we can even pretend to live up to them.
So we’re grateful to be together with you again this week. Tonight we will also have the opportunity to pray together the body prayer inspired by Julian of Norwich which we introduced a few weeks ago. This is in response to several of you who have told us how much this prayer has meant in your own spiritual practice.
And please stay with us until the end of our gathering this week. We will be announcing some important information about the upcoming schedule.
