Eight Friends in a Storm with a Wheelchair and a Walker

Eight friends embarked from Boston on a fun cruise to Canada, ready for scenery, good food, laughter, and a little adventure.

Apparently, the Atlantic heard “a little adventure” and replied, “Ladies, I can do better than that!”

One night, we encountered a storm at sea. The next morning, Dotty announced, “The wind was HOWLING all night!”

Some of us looked at one another. “What wind? We didn’t hear anything!”

Dotty got the surround-sound version. Some of us got Silent Night. 🤣

Clearly, there are advantages to hearing aids resting peacefully on the nightstand!

After breakfast, we thought the adventure was over.

Not even close.

To clear U.S. immigration in Portland, we had to tackle what looked like a mile-long outdoor ramp—in the rain, with wind blowing sideways.

Ponchos inflated like parachutes, hair entered different time zones, and everyone tried to stay upright.

Joan C was in her wheelchair, Dotty had her walker and Joan P’s arm, and the rest of us clung to the railing, our belongings, and one another.

Everybody was  still there!

By the time we reached immigration, we looked like eight soggy survivors of a very determined storm!

The officer checked our passports, gave us green stickers, and welcomed us back to the United States.

After surviving the storm, conquering the Great Windblown Ramp, and helping one another every step of the way, we realized what mattered most: we faced it all together.

Eight friends, one wild storm, what looked  like  a mile-long ramp, and enough laughter to make the trip unforgettable—not because of perfect weather, but because good friends hold on, help out, and turn every challenge into a blessing and a story! 😂
