Toribio: War in the Cauca Region, Colombia /Indigenous People Struggle for Justice

Latin Pulse brings you this episode of the Colombian TV show Contravía, where journalist Hollman Morris and his team travel to a remote community in Southern Colombia to eat, sleep and live with the Nasa Indians through a period of fear, displacement and anguish.

With their homes turned into battlegrounds, the indigenous community around Toribío continue their peaceful resistance to the invasion of free trade, armies and guerrillas. Morris combines this inside experience with personal testimonies from all sides, for a transparent exploration of Colombia's drawn-out conflict.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez's organization, The Foundation for a New Iberian-American Journalism, awarded Contravía's episode Toribío its highest prize in 2007, for their efforts to raise visibility for the victims of war in a censored and bellicose media environment.
