Gospel Jn 20:1-9

On the first day of the week,
Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb. I’m
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
"The Rabbi has been taken from the tomb,
and we don't know where they put him."
So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter
and arrived at the tomb first;
he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.

When Simon Peter arrived after him,
he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there,
and the cloth that had covered his head,
not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.
Then the other disciple also went in,
the one who had arrived at the tomb first,
and he saw and believed.
For they did not yet understand the Scripture
that he had to rise from the dead.  Then the disciples went back to their homes.

Meanwhile, Mary stood weeping beside the tomb. Even as she wept, she stooped to peer inside,

and there she saw two angels in dazzling robes.

One was seated at the head and the other at the foot of the place where Jesus' body had lain.

They asked her, "Why are you weeping?"

She answered them, "because they have taken away my Rabbi, and I don't know where they have put the body."

No sooner had she said this than she turned around and caught sight of Jesus standing there, but she didn't know it was Jesus.

He asked her, “Why are you weeping? For whom are you looking?"

She supposed it was the gardener, so she said, "Please, if you're the one who carried Jesus away, tell me where you’ve laid the body and I will take it away."

Jesus said to her, "Mary!"

She turned to him and said, "Rabboni!" - Which means "Teacher."

Jesus then said, “Don't hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to Abba God.

Rather, go to the sisters and brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Abba and your Abba, my God and your God!’"

Mary of Magdala went to the disciples. "I have seen the teacher!" she announced. Then she reported what Jesus had said to her.

And so ends this Gospel reading today.

                                                  Liturgy of the Eucharist

                              [extend hands in blessing]

ALL:  We are ever aware of your Spirit in creation. Intensify your Spirit anew in these simple gifts of bread and wine and in us, that we might truly be the Christ presence rising in our world.

Presider:  On the night before he died Jesus sat at supper with his companions. He reminded them of what he taught them and bent down and washed their feet. Jesus returned to his place at the table, lifted the bread and spoke the blessing, and then broke the bread with these words,

All:  "This is my body which will be given for you.  Do this in remembrance of me".

Presider:  Then taking the cup of wine Jesus gave thanks and said

All:  Take and drink of the covenant made new again through my life in you.

Presider: (lift bread and cup) This is Jesus the Christ-our gateway to New Life.

Through the sharing of this bread and wine may we awaken to the sacredness of our lives and the beauty all around us.  May we experience your divine presence, O Creator God, so deeply, that our lives become reflections of Jesus. May we proclaim with our very lives ALL IS ONE! Amen

All:  This is the Body of Christ for the Body of Christ.  (Pass the bread and cup in silence) (EACH PERSON WILL "BREAK" THEIR PIECE FROM THE BREAD)
